Relations between Georgia and the Republic of Cuba

Chronology of Diplomatic Relations

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Cuba were established on April 18, 1992.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of Georgia to the Republic of Cuba:

  • Ghia Nikolaishvili – Since  18 November, 2015 – to date ( with residence in Havana)
  • Malkhaz Mikeladze – September 2011 – April 2015, with residence in Mexico

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of the Republic of Cuba to Georgia:

  • Omar Senon Medina Quintero – Since March 2013 to date (with residence in Baku)
  • Marcelo Caballero Torres - July 2008 – September 2012 (with residence in Baku)
  • Julio Garmendia Penia – 10 January, 2007 – July 2008 (With residence in Kiev)
  • Marti Martines Jorje – 2003-2006 (with residence in Moscow)
  • Carlos Palmarola Cordero - 2000-2003 (with residence in Moscow)

Along with the development of political dialogue, the main fields of cooperation are the following: economy, healthcare, culture, sport, education. Within the recent years, active work is ongoing for the development of mutual cooperation in the traditional areas. In these regard, sharing experience of Cuba in the healthcare sector, implementation of joint meetings of team sports and trainings, exchanges between the representatives of art community shall be mentioned. At the same time, through the support of relevant agencies and business communities of the two countries work is ongoing in order to increase bilateral trade turnover. High-level meetings are regularly held between the parties within the bilateral visits and the international forums as well.
