Statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry regarding the natural disaster in the South Pacific

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expresses its deep sorrow over the massive destruction and material damage resulting from the natural disaster – tropical cyclone Pam – that hit the South Pacific.

The destructive natural disaster caused extensive damage in the Republic of Vanuatu, resulting in human casualties, while number of islands and especially capital Port Vila are almost leveled to the ground.

The assessment of damage is carried out in the Republic of Tuvalu also severely struck by the cyclone.
Georgia expresses its solidarity to the people of Vanuatu and Tuvalu and is ready to contribute to the international relief effort for the effected islands.

It should be noted that Vanuatu and Tuvalu established diplomatic relations with Georgia in 2013 and in 2014 correspondingly, fully respecting Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
