David Zalkaliani has met with the Vice Speaker of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan

11.09.2019, Uzbekistan – Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani met with the Vice Speaker of the Senate of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan Sadiq Safoyev.The sides highly appraised the historically friendly relations between Georgia and Uzbekistan and expressed their readiness to further contribute to strengthening these relations, including at the parliamentary level.
 
The Uzbek side expressed its interest in Georgia’s successful reform experience in many areas, particularly in fight against corrupt practices, public services and tourism.

The sides paid special attention to Georgia’s transit potential and Uzbekistan’s possible participation in international transit projects.
 
While on the theme of inter-parliamentary relations, the Uzbek side expressed its interest to invite members of the Georgian parliament as observers in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.
 
Discussions focused on the cultural links between the two countries. Special note was taken of the fact that Georgia MP Irakli Mezurnishvili prepared a documentary on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Uzbekistan.
 
The meeting with the Vice Speaker of the Senate of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan was attended by members of the Georgian Parliament, Chairman of the Group of Friendship with Uzbekistan Simon Nozadze and Georgian Ambassador to the Republic of Uzbekistan Zurab Abdushelishvili.
