The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the United States of Mexico, Mr. Malkhaz Mikeladze, paid an official visit to the Republic of Costa Rica from the 1st to the 3rd of August 2012.

During his visit, on the 1st of August, Mr. Mikeladze presented copies of his credentials to the Foreign Minister of Costa Rica, Mr. Enrique Castillo Barrantes, and on the 3rd of August he presented the original copies of his credentials to the Costa Rican President, Ms. Laura Chinchilla Miranda.

During the meeting with Mr. Castillo Barrantes, Mr. Mikeladze and the Costa Rican Foreign Minister focused on the prospect of deepening bilateral relations in the spheres of economy, culture and environmental protection, and expressed their governments' interest in conducting a further round of political consultations between Georgia and Costa Rica.

During the meeting with Ms. Laura Chinchilla Miranda, Mr. Mikeladze and the Costa Rican President discussed the matter of co-operation between their two countries in the sphere of environmental protection as well as the possibility of facilitating the movement of citizens between their two countries within the Central America Regional Security system. The two also emphasized the importance of the positive dynamics of bilateral relations between Georgia and Costa Rica and agreed to deepen political dialogue bilaterally as well as within the framework of international organizations. Mr. Mikeladze also expressed his government's gratitude for Costa Rica's firm support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
