On the 16th and 17th of August 2012, Salzburg hosted the "Trilogue Salzburg 2012" international conference, which was attended by high-ranking European government officials, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mrs. Catherine Ashton, and the heads of various influential analytical centres. The Georgian Foreign Minister, Mr. Grigol Vashadze, addressed the conference on behalf of the Georgian government. The conference's participants discussed various issues concerning sustainable economic development and environmental protection as well as some of the challenges these issues pose. They also focused upon the need to intensify regional co-operation, upon new ways of overcoming the global financial crisis and upon prospects for future economic co-operation. During his visit to Salzburg, the Georgian Foreign Minister held meetings with his Austrian counterpart, Mr. Michael Spindelegger.
