On the 16th of August 2012, a Georgian delegation took part in the inaugural ceremony of the new president of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina, in Santo Domingo. The Georgian delegation was led by the Vice Premier and State Minister for Reintegration Issues, Ms. Eka Tkeshelashvili, and included the Georgian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Mexican States, Mr. Malkhaz Mikeladze, and the Director of the Georgian Foreign Ministry's International Law Department, Ms. Tinatin Goletiani. During this visit, the Georgian delegation held meetings with the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina, and with the former president, Mr. Leonel Fernandez. The Georgian delegation also held bilateral meetings with the delegations from Costa Rica, Honduras, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Haiti, Surinam and Peru, during which were discussed the importance of strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations and prospects for the development of further co-operation.
