On 17 April 2008 a telephone conversation was held between President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczynski.
Following the conversation, the Polish President issued a special statement concerning the recent developments around Georgia, in particular, the Russian Federation’s decision on the establishment of official relations with Georgia’s separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
President Kaczynski also made a decision to assign a special mission to Georgia on 18 April. The mission includes the senior officials of President Kaczynski’s consultation committee, Deputy Chief of the President’s Administration Robert Draba, State Secretary of the Administration Mikhail Kaminsky and Director of the International Relations Bureau Marius Hanlik. The President of Poland sent the advisory group in an open support for Georgia.
