On 20 September 2011, within the framework of the General Debate of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Georgian Foreign Minister, Mr. Grigol Vashadze, met the foreign ministers of Guyana, Surinam, Paraguay, the Maldives, Indonesia, Palau, Serbia and Cyprus.

During these meetings, the ministers discussed various issues concerning bilateral and multilateral political co-operation, perspectives for deepening economic relations, and co-operation within the UN.

Mr. Vashadze and his Surinamese counterpart, Mr. Winston Lackin, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries' foreign ministries.
