Chronology of Diplomatic Relations

  
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of India were established on September 28, 1992.

Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Georgia:
Rajendra Rai Kumar (1995-1997, with the residence in Yerevan);
Vidya Bhushan Soni (1997-2002, with the residence in Yerevan);
Deepak Vohra (2002-2005, with the residence in Yerevan);
Reena Pandey (2005-2009, with the residence in Yerevan);
Achal Kumar Malhotra (2009-2012, with the residence in Yerevan).

Fields of Cooperation:
Cooperation within the framework of Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation program (ITEC) and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

 Legal Framework:

1. Protocol on the establishment of consular relations between the Republic of Georgia and the Republic of India. In force 28.09.1992.
2. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of India on trade and economic cooperation. In force 15.08.1995.
3. Protocol of consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India. In force from 11.05.2000.
4. Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of India on the Intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation. In force from 30.03.2010.
5. Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in the field of science and technology. In force from 30.03.2010.
6. Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science, sport and youth. In force from 9.12.2011.
7. Agreement between the Government of Republic of India and the Government of Georgia for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital. In force from 8.12.2011.

From Georgia to India:
10-12 May, 2000 - Official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, H.E. Mr. Irakli Menagarishvili;
2005 - Visit of the President of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry;
March 29-30, 2010 - Visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Alexander Nalbandov in the frames of the second round of bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and India;
October 31- November 1, 2010 - Prime Minister of Georgia, H.E. Mr. Nika Gilauri hosted the Invest in Georgia Forum organized by the Financial Times in the city of Mumbai;
February 22, 2011 - Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, H.E. Ms. Vera Kobalia and Minister of Finance of Georgia, H.E. Mr. Kakha Baindurashvili attended the Business Conference on Poti Free Industrial Zone held in Mumbai, that was organized by Rakia Georgia and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry;
March 7-10, 2011 - Visit of the State Minister of Georgia on Diaspora Issues, H.E. Mr. Papuna Davitaia;
December 7-8, 2011 - Visit of the President of Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Kakha Baindurashvili.

From India to Georgia:
December, 2004 - Visit of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, H.E. Mr. Rajiv Dogra, in the frames of the first round of bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and India;
April, 2005 - Visit of the Deputy Minister of Commerce and Trade of India.
