Chronology of Diplomatic Relations Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Lithuania were established on September 16, 1994. In May, 1996 Consulate General of Georgia was opened in the Republic of Lithuania. In September 2003 Georgian embassy launched its activity in the Republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In September, 2003 Georgian Embassy to the Republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia started to function and Davit Aptsiauri was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. From January 2007 David Aptsiauri became Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Lithuania. In May 2005 Ričardas Degutis assumed the office of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia.In January 2010 Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia became H.E. Mecys Laurinkus Since 5 May 2010 H.E. Jonas Paslauskas has been serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania in Georgia. In January 1998 Honorary Consul Irena- Slizevaicute - Jikia assumed her duties. Since 2010 Mr. Boris Gamrekeli has been serving as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Georgia. Fields of cooperation: Georgia and Lithuania have developed a close partnership in all spheres of cooperation. Lithuania actively supports Georgia's aspirations to integrate into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Close partnership between the two countries laid the path for greater institutional integration which became evident in April 2009 when two countries signed the Charter on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. The document became the basis for enhancing consultations between the two sides on all levels and developing new mechanisms for bringing Georgia closer to EU and NATO structures. Lithuania implements projects in the framework of the Development Cooperation under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. Projects aim to assist Georgia with fulfilling its goals and aspirations, which include good governance, democratization and economic development. Organizing conferences for local authorities and the representatives of central government for greater public engagement, reconstruction of educational and cultural buildings, establishing E-centers in various regions of Georgia and promoting partnerships between Georgian and Lithuanian business communities are some of the projects that Lithuania has implemented in the framework of Development Cooperation.
