Chronology of Diplomatic Relations

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Slovakia were established on January 1, 1993.

Igor Furdik - 2000, (with residence in Moscow)

Augustin Cizari - 2005, (with residence in Moscow)

Vladimir Jakabčin (with residence in Ankara) - from May 2009 

Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Slovakia

Giorgi Arsenishvili  (29.12.2001 - 15.07.2004);

Zaur Gamsakhurdia (06.09.2004 - 15.12.2005);

Nikoloz Nikolozishvili (with the residence in Bratislava) - (01.02.2006 – March, 2011);

Alexsander Nalbandov (with the residence in Bratislava) – from March 2011 – at present

Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovakia in Georgia

Fields of Cooperation

Cooperation between Georgia and Slovakia is developing dynamically. Slovakia supports Georgia's territorial integrity and its integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Relations between the Georgian and Slovak Parliaments, as well as educational institutions are deepening.

Trade with Slovakia in 2011 (January-September) amounted to 9.7 mln. USD

Export was 2 mln. USD and import was 7.7 mln. USD.

4 February, 2004 - Visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovakia, E. Kukand to Tbilisi;

18-19 March, 2004 - Visit of President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili to Bratislava to participate in the International Conference "Economic Reforms for Europe";

12-13 February, 2007 - Official visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Gela Bezhuashvili to the Republic of Slovakia;

26-28 June, 2007 - Visit of State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, Ms. Olga Algaierova to Tbilisi;

27-28 November, 2007 - Official visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia and Chairman of Committee of European Council to Georgia;

12 -13 March, 2009 - Visit of State Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Baramidze to Bratislava;

18-19 October, 2009 - Visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Gregory Vashadze in Slovakia;

5 March, 2010 - Bilateral Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Republic of Slovakia (Tbilisi);

16 March, 2010 - Visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, Mr. Laichak in Georgia;

28 - 29 June, 2010 - Official visit of of State Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Baramidze to Bratislava;

2-4 March, 2011 – Official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Grigol Vashadze to Bratislava.

Legal Base:

1.  Protocol on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic (In force since 04.02.2000).

2.  Agreement between Slovak Republic and Georgia about the Waiver of Visa Duties for the Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports (In force since 20.10.1996).

3.  Agreement between the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Culture, Monuments Protection and Sport of Georgia on Cooperation in Field of Culture (In force since 18.10.2009)


Agreement, which is signed, but have not entered into force, yet:

 

4. Agreement between Georgia and Slovak Republic for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and On Capital (signed on October 27th, 2011).
