 According to the new law Georgian visas will be mainly issued in diplomatic missions or consular offices of Georgia abroad and in exceptional cases it can be issued at the state border.

The Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Maia Panjikidze paid a working visit to the Republic of Austria to take part in the annually held European Forum Alpbach. Present at the forum were the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the European Union, Ms Catherine Ashton, the Austrian Federal President, Mr Heinz Fischer, the Austrian Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, Mr Sebastian Kurz and the OSCE Secretary General, Mr Lamberto Zannier.

On the 24th of August 2014 so-called extraordinary presidential elections are being held in the occupied region of Abkhazia. This illegal act represents yet another unsuccessful attempt of disguising ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of people by elements of ostensible democratic governance.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry wishes to once again refer to the ongoing developments in Ukraine, and to express its concern over the recent escalation of hostilities in the country's eastern regions, which are causing heavy casualties among the civilian population. The Georgian Foreign Ministry maintains that any act of terrorism, separatism or extremism within the borders of a peaceful and democratic state must be assessed in an appropriate and strict manner.
