Within the framework of his visit to the Kingdom of Sweden, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili met with the State Secretary to the EU Affairs, Christian Danielsson. The sides reviewed in detail the progress on Georgia's accession to the European Union, including on the implementation of the European Commission’s 12 recommendations.
The State Secretary once again noted that Sweden supports Georgia's aspirations and is ready to work with the Georgian side to carry out the reforms needed to achieve further success on this path. Ilia Darchiashvili thanked the Swedish diplomat for his personal support of Georgia and his active support of our country. According to him, the country not only fulfills the European Commission’s recommendations, but also takes all necessary steps to harmonize its legislation with that of the EU.
The sides welcomed the decision of the European Union to grant Georgia a European perspective and noted the importance of granting the country a candidate status. Discussions also focused on Georgia’s practical rapprochement with the European Union and Sweden's assistance in this regard, Georgia’s important role in the energy security of the European Union and the diversification of transit routes.
The sides discussed the existing security environment in the region. Sweden's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity was once again confirmed.
