Within the framework of his visit to Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, met with Gert Jan Koopman, the Director General of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission.
The sides discussed in detail Georgia’s European integration process and the progress achieved by the country in this direction. Special attention was paid to the reforms successfully carried out by Georgia on the way to European integration.
Ilia Darchiashvili spoke about the successful implementation of the association agreement. During the conversation, the parties emphasized the importance of fulfilling the 12 recommendations of the European Commission and the work done by Georgia in this regard.
The sides highly appraised the European Commission’s report on the harmonization of the Georgian legislation with that of the European Union. Ilia Darchiashvili expressed the hope that Georgia's efforts and progress will be properly evaluated by the European institutions and will be reflected in specific decisions, including on granting Georgia a candidate status.
