On 7 October 2026, in Geneva, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted the resolution entitled “Cooperation with Georgia,” addressing the human rights situation in Georgia’s occupied regions.
At the session of the UN Human Rights Council, Georgia’s resolution was presented by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia.
As in the previous year, the resolution was adopted by consensus, marking a significant achievement for Georgia and demonstrating the strong support of the international community.
The Human Rights Council once again reaffirms its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders and expresses concern over various forms of discrimination and human rights violations perpetrated against the ethnic Georgian population in the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions occupied by Russia.
The resolution underscores the importance of the Geneva International Discussions established pursuant to the 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement.
The resolution expresses concern over restrictions on access to the occupied territories for international and regional human rights monitoring mechanisms.
In this regard, the Council calls for ensuring the immediate and unhindered access of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and international and regional human rights mechanisms to the occupied regions.
The resolution also underscores the occupation of the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions by Russia and the importance of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights delivered between 2021 and 2026, and condemns actions undertaken by Russia towards future illegal annexation of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions.
Georgia has been submitting this resolution to the Human Rights Council annually since 2017.
