The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
The sides discussed the current agenda of Georgia-EU cooperation, the process of Georgia's accession to the European Union and related issues. Ilia Darchiashvili provided the High Representative with comprehensive information regarding the implementation of the European Commission’s 12 recommendations. Special mention was taken of the successful reforms carried out by Georgia in various areas, which were reflected in the European Commission’s report on the harmonization of the Georgian legislation with that of the European Union. Highlighting the importance of the decision to grant Georgia a candidate status, they expressed the hope that Georgia's efforts will be properly evaluated.
Discussions also focused on the security environment in the region. The Minister informed the high representative about the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions.
