Maka Botchorishvili: “Georgia stands firmly with the Ukrainian people and reaffirms its unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders”
On 23 September 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, participated in the Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform, entitled “A Test of Unity, a Call for Action,” which was held in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
In her address, the Minister spoke about Georgia’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the importance of upholding international law and the international order.
“For Georgia, the issue of Ukraine is not simply one item of international agenda. We know all too well what it means when a state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are violated,” the Minister for Foreign Affairs noted.
According to the Minister, Russia’s occupation of two regions of Georgia continues to this day and remains one of the most serious security challenges for the country.
“We know how devastating the impact of occupation can be - for individuals, for families and for society as a whole. Because of this experience, Georgia attaches particular importance to solidarity, respect for international law, and a steadfast commitment to the principles upon which a peaceful and secure international order must be built,” highlighted Maka Botchorishvili.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs also spoke about the significance of the International Crimea Platform, noting that “The International Crimea Platform is an important forum for sustaining international attention to Ukraine and, more importantly, for translating our shared commitment into concrete actions”.
At the same time, Maka Botchorishvili underscored Georgia’s commitment to peace and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and spoke about the importance of international community’s support in this regard.
Concluding her address, Maka Botchorishvili once again reaffirmed Georgia’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
“We welcome all genuine efforts aimed at ending the war and achieving a lasting peace - a peace grounded in the principles of the UN Charter and international law. Georgia stands firmly with the Ukrainian people and reaffirms its unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” stated the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The forum is a high-level international platform for political support for Ukraine, held annually.
