On 20 August 2026, the United Nations Security Council held a closed meeting to discuss the situation in the Georgian territories occupied by Russia and the Russia-Georgia conflict, on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia war.

On 13 August 2026, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia held an introductory meeting with William Massolin, the newly appointed Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia.

On 12 August 2026, Irakli Zarkua, Chair of the Diaspora Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Greta Tsitsava, Member of Parliament, Davit Kodua, Mayor of Zugdidi Municipality and Nodar Komakhidze, Head of the Consular and Diaspora Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the Georgian youth living abroad who are participating in the Anaklia Youth Camp.

On 10 August 2026, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Georgia, Camilla Lykke Rasmussen, presented copies of her letters of credence to Zurab Darchiashvili, Director of the Directorate of Diplomatic Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war, the national flags are flown at half-mast at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as at Georgia’s diplomatic representations and consular offices abroad, to honour the memory of those who lost their lives.

Eighteen years have passed since the full-scale military aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Georgia. In August 2008, disregarding the fundamental norms and principles of international law, Russia carried out the illegal occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region - inalienable parts of Georgia’s territory - and recognised their so-called independence.
